My Last Quarter at FIDM!!

My last quarter as a FIDM is under way! The end is in sight!! I don't really have too many fun classes this quarter, so hopefully it will go fast. The oddest is Entrepreneurship....they've been teaching us all along how to work for someone and now we're learning how to write a business plan to open our own business?! Doesn't quite make sense to me...

Hurry up, March!

Christmas Break in Iowa

I enjoyed a wonderful (almost) three weeks in Iowa over the Holidays. It was great to get out of the city and surround myself with "normal" people again!!! Needless to say, it was COLD and coming from a girl who doesn't wear socks or a coat, it was a change!

Some highlights of my trip include {in no particular order}:

  • Family vacation to Playa del Carmen, Mexico

  • Spending lots of time with my parents---even though they were both pretty sick!! :-( It essentially turned into spending about 20 minutes a day with my mom while she could be out of bed and 20 minutes a day with my dad after he got home from work and before he fell asleep on the couch
  • Hanging out with my most favorite kiddos EVER!

  • Spending time with both of my grammas
  • Spending time with my family at Christmas and catching up with my cousins
  • Catching up with old friends--both high school and college
A NON highlight would be having the flu while traveling home from Mexico. Not fun!!

Mexico!!!

Our family trip to Mexico was absolutely wonderful!! 5 days of doing nothing but sitting by the pool and once in a while getting in to frequent the swim-up bar.

We had gorgeous weather....it was only cloudy one day, but we went were at Xcaret (http://www.xcaret.com/)  so it worked out perfectly. Xcaret is kind of like a huge zoo. There were different areas and things to see with the highlight being an underground river that we swam through.

Only true Mayans climb ruins in flip flops and maxi dresses!

Each night we went to a restaurant of a different cuisine. According to the literature, we became gastronomes! The unanimous favorite was Japanese where the chef chopped and cooked everything right in front of us. Whitney was the only one of us brave enough to order sushi as the appetizer.

Needless to say, it was a shock to the system to come home to single digit weather! Also needless to say, after Christmas and a week at an all-inclusive resort, it's time to dust the layers off my treadmill! Uufda!

Done!!

I'm done with my second quarter at FIDM!! I thought I'd never see the day! My classmates and I agree that this quarter was so much worse than our first quarter. All the lackluster was gone and we just didn't enjoy it. Hopefully our third (and final) quarter will be better!

I'm looking forward to enjoying lazy days for the next two weeks! I'll have a little bit of work mixed in, but I'm excited to be a bum again!

My Christmas Tree Experience

I bought a Christmas tree for our apartment right after Thanksgiving. I didn't realize how funny the story behind it was until I was telling my mom today.

I went to Target after work to get the tree. I was all dolled up and in my work clothes, which I didn’t think would be that big of a deal. I found the tree I wanted (for more than 50% off!!) and found a guy to help me get it down from the shelf. After he got it down, he asked me if I wanted him to carry it to customer service for me while I continued shopping. I had no shopping left to do so I put the tree in my cart and wheeled up to the checkout. The lady at checkout asked if I needed help with it. I said, “no, I was fine.” At the end of the checkout she doubled checked and asked if I wanted someone to carry the tree out to my car for me. I said, “no, I live just a few blocks away, I’m just going to carry it.” (I must have looked incompetent or something.) This tree is a 6-foot tall tree all boxed up. It wasn’t that huge of a box or that heavy.....until I tried carrying it home. So here I am (remember, all dolled up and in my nice Michael Kors work clothes) carrying a Christmas tree home on the streets of LA. It got to be pretty heavy and awkward by the time I made it home. I’m sure it was quite the sight!

Anyway, I have a pretty tree in my apartment waiting for me to get brave enough to go back to Target and get ornaments.

My Uncle Bill carves and paints Santas! I love them! (One in my mom's that I may "forget" to bring home when I go home for Christmas.)
